Hosted at the permaculture garden space of Rainbow Forest Gardens, this program offers a diverse and unique environment for learning about nature in Nature. Our 1.5 acre plot includes a flower and vegetable garden built to be sustainable and regenerative where the children are involved in creating and maintaining habitat for plants, animals and people to thrive together. With a large pond on site, we are able to witness water resources used for irrigation of our garden, as well as the bounty of lifeforms that this mini- wetland calls home.
Our indoor space consists of a small warming hut filled with sunlight and potential as we are still in the process of building this structure to suit the needs of this program and others who share this land.
There is an outdoor bathroom that features a composting toilet system and a functional hand washing station.
Only being a few minutes North of LaBarriere Park, we often explore that space for it's forested river banks and immense bio-diversity to inspire our curriculum and immersion in the untamed natural world.
In the words of David Suzuki, “Unless we are willing to encourage our children to reconnect with and appreciate the natural world, we can’t expect them to help protect and care for it.”
This program offers child-led curriculum with opportunities to:
· Build relationships with nature through explorative play
· Cultivate emotional literacy and resilience building skills
· Participate in sustainable gardening practices & environmental stewardship
· Express themselves creatively through place-based art
· Foster a healthy involvement in peer-centered community
